Food is very good. Group of 5 tried 7 different dishes and all except for one were executed very well. Decor is also much brighter and nicer than the restaurant that was here before.
Beautiful decor, delicious meal! We started with Mozzarella Carozza and meatballs both were delectable. Then we had chicken parm with pasta and chicken your way (Marsala) with creamy polenta and veggies. Yummm! Absolutely love that creamy polenta is the option as a side. We ended with the cannoli and cheesecake which were very tasty as well. A must try for those who haven't been! Looking forward to dining there again soon.
Right on Livingston street in Norwood, the exterior of this restaurant is deceiving for the wonderful tastes that await you once inside. It's nicely decorated, has a welcoming but small bar where one can order Happy Hour drinks, and the atmosphere is cozy. La Mensa has only been open since September, due to COVID ups and downs, not the easiest to keep a restaurant going. I hope this charming place survives since the food was very tasty. I had a side as one of my appetizers, eggplant caponata. It wasn't the usual in red sauce but instead, two covered pieces of toast buttered with goat cheese and layered with an abundance of chopped eggplant. This was my favorite taste of the evening, SUPERB! Also savory was the vongole oreganata. These little neck clams were not overly stuffed with bread crumbs, the taste of the sea settled in my mouth with each bite I took. My entree, linguine al vongole, had an abundance of clams. The pasta was cooked to perfection, the garlic was not overkill, everything was delicately seasoned. The only okay dish, I'm disheartened to say, was the bread pudding. I was introducing it to someone who never tried this dessert before. It was dry, bland, with no flavors jumping out. We finished it by chugging a lot of water encouraging the chunks of bread to slide down our throats. This restaurant should have the opportunity to prove itself. It's one of the better Italian eateries around and shouldn't be another victim to the timing of COVID.
I enjoyed my meal at La Mensa. Looks so much nicer since they spruced it up from the old restaurant. Food was good, margarita's were spot on. Food and service were very good too. The owner came over and introduced himself, we love that little touch at restaurants. I had the papardelle and it was outstanding. My husband had the Bronzino. We had no room for dessert but will definitely be back to get some.
La Mensa is our new favorite Italian Restaurant/Date Night all around Favorite most welcome addition to town. The food is delicious and well executed. The menu is diverse with a large specials selection. The owner is always present, very friendly and involved in ensuring all meals are fantastic. They also have an expansive wine menu and the waiters/owner are very versed in making recommendations. We've dined and and ordered out and the quality had been the same for both.
